Northern Michigan Ecstatic Dance
Free-form movement for every body
Scroll through the images here for some inspiration. Our patchwork will look something like one of these.
I always tell people that even if they can't dance with us, they are still part of us, and I mean that. Each person who comes to the dance is part of who we are. So I'd like to make an alter cloth that incorporates everyone who has joined us over the last 10 years.
At least 350 different people have danced with us in the last 10 years.
Would you please share a swatch of fabric from your life that we can patchwork into an alter cloth we can use again and again?
Postcard size or larger. Woven (non stretchy) material is best. Contribute many swatches if you can.
Bring fabric to any dance in the next few months (October, November, December). Or mail them to Jeanie at PO Box 63, Suttons Bay, MI 49682.
Dates and times to be announced
Three sessions to walk through all five phases of the Dance
90 minutes each, online
Email nomiecstatic@gmail.com to let Jeanie know you are interested - perhaps share a bit about your availability.
$60-100 for the full series. Or HALF price ($30-$50) if you make a playlist for a future dance.
Ecstatic Dance is a space for your own expression of movement or dance, however big or small that may be. Movement is free-form and individual. Music is provided, but this is not a class. This is a space to connect with ourselves, listen to our bodies, and move through whatever is happening in our lives at the moment. It's a space to free the body to move without judgment. All ages, all bodies welcome.

We start with a grounding or breathing exercise to help us arrive in body and spirit.
Then we get in a circle to meet one another and check in.
We usually explore the theme through some sort of discussion, sharing, movement, or activity.
Then there's about an hour of music designed to help you move whatever you've got. It starts slowly, builds to high energy beats, then drops back into soothing rhythms, before ending with meditative sounds. You move (or don't move) however your body moves you.
We end in circle to give thanks and share about our experience.
Bring your full self, nothing needs to be left behind. This is a place to let it all out.
$10-$20 (sliding scale) to support the music, the space, equipment, and materials.
An offering for the dance (flowers, a sacred object, food to share, a poem, battery operated lights, an activity, drumming, etc.) is welcome if you feel moved in this way. This is a community created event.
Also bring plenty of water. (There is not always water available when we are outside.)
In the warm months when we are outside: bring a blanket, mat, or seat to sit or lay down on, weather appropriate clothing, and shoes (I like some with soft soles so I can still feel the ground). The grass and other plants can be pokey so you might want to wear pants.
